Jared Andrew Schorr

March 26, 2010

Earlier today I was delighted to stumble onto the work of Jared Andrew Schorr. Totally delighted! His drawings and paper-cut illustrations are just oozing fun.

He works primarily with cut paper, but he’s somehow able to maintain a loose, spontaneous quality in his work, something I don’t see much in the work of other cut paper illustrators.

I like his hand drawn work just as much as his paper cut stuff. Maybe even more!

Check out his website AND his blog!

André François

March 3, 2010

André François is one of my absolute favorite illustrators/cartoonists of all time. I don’t see him talked about much anymore. In fact, I was completely unaware of his work until a year or two ago when I found a beat up old copy of The Half-Naked Knight (a collection of his drawings and cartoons from 1958) tucked away in the humor section of a used bookstore. I’ve since tried to track down as many collections of his work as I can find.

The guy was brilliant in every way! His sense of humor sharp, yet subtle. His drawings full of life, awkwardly loose and simple in the best possible way. I’ve consciously tried to let his drawings influence my own work over the last year or two. I had a real hard time resisting the urge to scan dozens and dozens of images from the books I’ve collected.

INTERVIEW: Bob Flynn

August 22, 2009

For any readers that don’t know, can you tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do?

I’m a cartoonist—working in illustration, comics, and animation. Some of your readers might otherwise know me as “Jinx the Monkey” or “bobjinx.” I tend to make offbeat nonsensical images, both digitally and on paper. I also design games, films, and websites for an educational media company called FableVision. In a nutshell, I’m obsessed with comics and cartoons and I hope you are too.
